Galina Vishnevskaya was always dramatically way over the top. Not so famous today as this
other russian soprano, Galina was truly a musician; her voice was maybe never a polished instrument, but was used with great feeling and sensibility for text and music: she was able to sing like an animal and her singing was overwhelming.
Five Satires by Shostakovich is one of my favourite recordings of hers (her husband, Rostropovich at the piano). I love to play these songs really loud... there is something about Galina´s art which my neighbours find really annoying!
